A Grassroots Story
Ours is a grassroots story. In 1987, Dr. James Jackson traveled to South America as a consultant to the President of Brazil. During his visit, he toured a small medical clinic in Campinas, just outside of Rio de Janeiro. What he witnessed moved him to his core: doctors and nurses without resources to do their jobs, communities without access to basic healthcare, and people needlessly dying without hope.
Upon returning to Colorado, Jim and his wife AnnaMarie began to collect donated medical supplies to send to Brazil. Through the generosity of friends and acquaintances, they filled their garage with these donated medical supplies and paid to deliver those life-saving items to the people who needed it most. And from that first humble shipment to Brazil in 1987, the foundation of Project C.U.R.E. was laid. Over the last 30 years, Project C.U.R.E. has grown into world’s largest distributor of donated medical relief.
Today, under the leadership of Jim’s son, Dr. Douglas Jackson, Project C.U.R.E. operates an international headquarters and seven distribution warehouses located all over the continental United States. We’ve provided over 2,000 cargo containers of life-saving medical supplies and equipment to more than 135 countries all over the world. And the engine of Project C.U.R.E. continues to be the dedication of a small team of staff and large
cadre of 30,000 volunteers who annually log over 160,000 hours of time and talent to advance our mission to deliver health and hope to the world.
That important work continues—each day, we are renewed with that same vision that Jim Jackson held—that a committed and dedicated group of individuals can save lives and change the course of history, one container at a time.
