Joining Forces to Deliver More to Those in Need
Since 2005, Project C.U.R.E. has partnered with Colorado-based company, Newmont Mining Corporation. Together, Newmont and Project C.U.R.E. have delivered more than $8.8 million dollars’ worth of life-saving medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in Guinea, Ghana, Haiti, Indonesia, Peru and Suriname. And, Newmont employees have also volunteered hundreds of hours to sorting and packing medical supplies and equipment in the Denver Distribution Center.
For every strikeout thrown by a Rockies pitcher, Newmont donated $50 to Project C.U.R.E., helping deliver health and hope to people who need it most. This partnership raised approximately $62,000–that’s 1,252 strikeouts. Benefiting different countries every month–including Syrian refugees, mothers and babies in Zambia, doctors in Cuba and need facilities in Tanzania.
The commitment to positive relationships with host communities is a core value for Newmont. “Our business involves much more than exploring for and producing gold. It’s about understanding people’s interests and aspirations for their communities. Project C.U.R.E. helps make this happen through their extensive needs assessments and approach to gaining agreement from the end users on every piece of medical equipment before it is shipped. They also provide great employee volunteer experiences to pack and deliver medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in communities close to where we operate,” said Matt King, Senior Manager Social Responsibility at Newmont.
